About the campaign: “Boost to New Heights”

This campaign is created to release on July 24, 2019, one year prior to the start of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Part of the mission of USA Synchro is to “return to the Olympic Podium by 2024.” While this goal is still one Olympic Games and five years away, Tokyo 2020 will be a big step and indictor of reaching that goal. Though this campaign is inspired by the National team and their events, it can also be used by the entire organization. The Foundation and fundraising efforts of USA Synchro would increase their fundraising goals for the year, taking it to a new level the organization has not seen before. Teams can use the campaign to increase membership boosting their numbers through the inspiration of the Olympics. In addition, teams are putting an increased emphasis on athleticism and creativity raising the bar even higher. Education and resources will be marketed to teach and encourage coaches and officials to reconsider how they look at the sport and how small things can change the dynamic of the sport. Similar focus on boosting membership and peak performance will be used at the Masters, Collegiate and Friends/Family levels as well as the intermediate and age group team level. If membership, active participation and overall enthusiasm for the sport are boosted at the grassroots level then, with time, more people will want to be involved in the sport beyond the initial phases.

Faces and hearts shine as USA Synchro National team visits Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs

Ten year old Emily is a dancer. Six year old Nathan is a soccer player. Both dream of achieving greatness in their sport, including the Olympics, but for right now those dreams are temporarily on hold. Emily and Nathan are undergoing cancer treatment at Children’s Hospital of Colorado Springs.

Cancer has become a familiar topic in daily life. It touches everyone in one way or another as one in three people will face the diagnosis of cancer. And for more than 15,000 kids, and their families, this statistic became a reality in 2018. Children’s Hospital is one of the many places kids find treatment for this terrible disease.

On Thursday afternoon, following an early morning practice, the National Team and USA Synchro staff headed over to meet the kids at Children’s Hospital. After a brief tour of the facility and learning about some of the treatment programs at Children’s, the team set out.

The athletes boosted spirits by talking and sharing laughs - discussing anything from their favorite color to sports and hobbies to dreams for the future. The team brought along a few Olympic and Championship medals to share, maybe inspiring some new dreams. Other athletes played games or made crafts alongside their new friends. The hit craft of the day: design your own Olympic medal. Colorful paper, ribbon, glitter and more brought to life Olympic medals for activities not yet recognized on the Olympics or World Championship stages.

“The kids here are so inspiring. They have been through so much already, but stay so positive,” said National Team member Olivia Smith. “I loved hearing their stories and their dreams as if having cancer is not a big deal and will not impact their future goals.”

“September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness month and is represented by the color gold. I could not think of a more perfect opportunity to spread awareness and share experiences between the children and a team striving for gold themselves,” Director of Cancer Services, Nancy Lee reflected on the day’s visit.

Even after the final treatment bell is rung, the fight is still far from over. The USA Synchro National Team continues to fight toward the Olympic podium. As for patients and staff at Children’s Hospital, they continue to fight for a cure now and in the future.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

USA Strives for Olympic Qualification at Pan American Games

LIMA, PERU, August 1, 2019- The synchronized swimming, artistic swimming as recognized by FINA, competition concluded on the evening of Wednesday, July 31, 2019 in the Aquatics Center in Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna in Lima, Peru. Eight countries competed for the one spot to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the team event, while twelve countries competed for the one duet qualifying position. USA finished second in the team event behind Team Canada.

The US Synchronized Swim National Team competed in the technical team event on Monday, July 29. The routine was choreographed to a fast paced, techno style melody, featuring the required elements. The required lift cadence boosted the team to new heights early in the routine. After the technical competition the team was seated in third with 87.4667 points.

The team then competed in the free event on Wednesday, July 31. The dramatic storytelling features of the free routine spoke volumes of Team USA’s strengths and boosted them into second place overall. Head coach and four-time Olympic medalist Andrea Fuentes explained the inspiration of the routine, “Especially in our free routine, we incorporated so many elements inspired by the world outside of synchro. The team has worked with professional dancers in robotics and contemporary dance as well as with athletes and coaches in other sports to study movement in life. Those elements accent our routine while making it relatable and interesting for anyone watch.”

The Pan American Games are one of three qualifiers for the Olympics in the sport of synchronized swimming. From the Pan American Games the top finisher automatically qualifies for the Olympics as the representative of the American continents. Earlier in July 2019 the FINA World Championships in South Korea served as another qualifying competition where the top two finishers qualify. USA finished fourth in this team event. Team USA’s final opportunity to qualify for the 2020 Olympics will be at the Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament in Tokyo, Japan in March 2020. “Our National Team has had great development on the international stage in recent competitions,” said Ginny Jasontek, Acting High Performance Director of USA Synchro. “We are motivated to boost the team in this final stretch towards the 2020 Olympic podium.”
