DELAYED OLYMPICS CREATES THREE NEW HOPEFULS
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA, August 1, 2020- With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics being moved to begin in July 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, teams and individual athletes have had to adjust. The USA Artistic Swimming National Team are among those still training to earn their spot on the Olympic stage. To round and strengthen Team USA, the USA Artistic Swimming National Team added three new members to their roster: Nikki Dzurko, Megumi Field and Anya Melson.
Nicole “Nikki” Dzurko, 20, returns to the Bay Area for National Team training from Columbus, Ohio where she trained with The Ohio State University team. Prior to The Ohio State University, Dzurko was a member of the Santa Clara Aquamaids. Most notably among her many accomplishments nationally and internationally Nikki represented the United States as a soloist at 2016 Junior World Championship in Kazan and was a member of the 2017 National team competing at the World Championships and American Open. The 2017 National team earned honors recognition by Team USA and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
Megumi Field, 15, continues to move up among US national teams. Field was a member of the 2016 12 and Under National Team for USA Artistic Swimming. Since then she has continued to excel with her home team, La Mirada Aquabelles, as the West Zone solo champion in the 13 to 15 age group.
Fellow 2016 12 and Under National Team member Anya Melson, 15, joins the Olympic hopefuls from the Nevada Desert Mermaids in Las Vegas, Nevada. Melson received the invitation to the Senior National Team following successful selection for the Junior National Team in 2019.
Dzurko, Field and Melson join the other nine members of the USA Artistic Swimming National Team as they continue to strive towards a qualification for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The next qualifying opportunity for Team USA is in March 2021 in Tokyo, Japan at a qualifying tournament. Under the direction of head coach Andrea Fuentes, four time Olympic medalist, and assistant coaches Anna Voloshyna and Lara Teixeira Cianciaralo the team is determined and energized to train for the Olympics and adapt as needed during a pandemic.

Social Media Campaign – OFFSEASON
The offseason social media campaign would feature what members of the USA Artistic Swimming community do during the offseason. USA Artistic Swimming would first post a photo of an empty pool then continue to use stories, reels and posts to feature what people are doing in the offseason. The campaign would kick off with members of the National Team, staff, Board members, etc. and mix in reposts from athletes, coaches and more throughout the campaign in order to engage as much of the Artistic Swimming community because the offseason is not just for athletes and all levels of the sport should be represented.
