Memories and Friends of Alumni Weekend 2016

Alumni Weekend 2016 brought more than 500 alumni and guests of Regis University and Loretto Heights College home to Denver to celebrate and reminisce on college experiences and the years that have passed since graduation. Attendance included alumni from the classes of 1943 to 2016, with the most from the 40th reunion class of 1976.

The three-day extravaganza featured 23 events for alumni to attend, each an opportunity to reconnect with old friends or to make new ones. Events included the annual State of the University Luncheon and the ever-popular All Alumni Cocktail Hour and Dinner with Dancing on the Quad. The State of the University Luncheon was led by Regis University’s new Provost Dr. Janet Houser in the absence of Regis University President Father John P. Fitzgibbons, S.J., though he did make an appearance via video. The address was brief but included construction updates on the Main Hall renovation, expectations as the new academic year rapidly approaches and presentation of awards to four alumni for service and excellence in their respective fields. The addition of some new events such as the Brewery Tour, Wine and Cheese Tasting and a Denver Leaders Network reception provided new and exciting options for guests. The Brewery Tour, an event co-sponsored by Regis’ Certificate in Applied Craft Brewing, was a hit with 30 attendees visiting three local breweries to taste fresh Colorado brews.

Alumni Weekend welcomed several first-time guests and many returning guests. Alumni and guests described the weekend as “magnificent” and the best experience they could ever imagine and many are looking forward to not missing Alumni Weekend in the future. Dana Peterson, RC ’81, said, “Everything was great and the staff worked so hard to make everything fun and so enjoyable. I am so glad I came to Alumni Weekend and I look forward to coming again.”

Thank you to all alumni and guests who participated in Alumni Weekend 2016. Also thank you to all faculty and staff, especially in University Advancement, who helped make this weekend possible. The Office of Alumni Engagement looks forward to the more to come next year.
